چکیده

The Silicon Tracking System (STS) is the central component of the CBM experiment. The challenging task of the STS is the reconstruction of the particle tracks, the measurement of their momenta, and the detection of primary and secondary vertices. A benchmark observable is the D meson (“open charm”) which has to be identified via its hadronic decays D → Kπ and D → Kππ. This task requires a vertex detector with high position resolution, very low material budget, extreme radiation tolerance and a fast self-triggered readout.

Simulation of realistic detector response in the CBM Silicon Tracking System

The Silicon Tracking System of the CBM Experiment consists of eight tracking layers of silicon detectors. Each layer is an array of vertical modules containing 300 μm thick double-sided silicon strip sensors. The strip pitch is 60 μm on both sides. The sensors are segmented into 1024 strips per side. On either side the strips are tilted by +7.5◦ or -7.5◦ with respect to the vertical edge, creat...

Simulation study of radiation damage in double-sided silicon microstrip detectors for the CBM Silicon Tracking System

We started TCAD simulations last year to understand the radiation damage in Double Sided Silicon Strip Detectors (DSSD) for the CBM Silicon Tracking System. We used the public domain versions from Stanford namely SUPREM for Process Simulation and PISCES for device simulation [1]. The results were reported in the GSI Scientific Report 2008 [2]. Now we are using the three-dimensional TCAD simulat...

Layout studies of the Silicon Tracking System for the CBM experiment

The Silicon Tracking System (STS) serves the CBM experiment as a track reconstruction and momentum measurement detector. It is designed to provide high tracking efficiency and good momentum resolution for the charged particles produced in nuclear interactions in the target. As the multiplicities in central Au + Au collisions at FAIR energies reach 1000 charged particles a high granularity and l...

Simulation study on the radiation tolerance of microstrip detectors for the CBM Silicon Tracking System

We are using the three-dimensional TCAD simulation package from Synopsys [1] to simulate double sided silicon strip detectors (DSSDs) for the CBM Silicon Tracking System (STS). The STS will consist of eight stations of DSSDs at a distance of 30-100 cm from the target. The expected neutron fluence will vary from 1×1013 neqcm−2 to 1×1015 neqcm−2 depending on the location of the sensors. Hence we ...

Progress with performance simulations of the CBM Silicon Tracking System

Efficient charged particle tracking and high momentum resolution are central performance requirements of the CBM Silicon Tracking System (STS). The aim of the ongoing layout studies is to design a highly granular and lowmass detector system which can track up to 1000 charged particles that are typically generated in one central Au+Au collision at 25 GeV/u projectile energy. A low-mass detector ...

First test of a prototype CBM silicon detector system in a proton beam at GSI

In September 2008, the CBM collaboration performed the first essential test of two prototype detector systems in a 2.5 GeV proton beam at GSI. The experiment at the HTD beam line in Cave C comprised prototype micro-strip detectors of the Silicon Tracking System, and gas-electronmultiplier (GEM) detectors. The detectors were coupled to a self-triggering front-end electronics and data acquisition...
